The Three Lions to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward passage for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an Three Lions fixture since eight years ago, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the England side for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.
England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.
Competition Opening and Rally
The championship was launched at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they approached the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were displayed with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they make it.
Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will cater to families and help reach a broader range of viewers.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Venues and Elimination Phase
The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.
