The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
