Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The effort seeks to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it fails to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a group of talented individuals. The song features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The song is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
