The British heavyweight doubled down on his controversial comments about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Florida on Wednesday.

These statements were originally stated on the previous day when Joshua was questioned if he would hold back against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming bout against the internet personality turned fighter has attracted debate over the risk involved and the physical disparity between the two competitors.

Tyson Fury Labels AJ a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder The Gypsy King labeled Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory language.

But Joshua, defended his stance: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I understand many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. The outcome, happens - as long as my hand is raised, that's what's paramount, with all due respect.”

He added, “That's just the mindset we have to have as fighters. I don't know if other boxers think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a perilous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You pray your opponent leaves the ring in good health, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Paul's Fiery Retort

Paul, a considerable underdog in the heavyweight contest as a natural lighter fighter, was no less fiery in his response.

“This is a contemporary gladiator sport,” Paul stated. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all over. We should kill each other.”

Joshua will face Paul, in his twenties, at Miami's arena in a fight many see as a significant mismatch, with some suggesting it should have been sanctioned as an non-professional fight.

The professional contest will be fought over eight 3-minute rounds using regular ten-ounce padded gloves, with a stipulated maximum weight for the former champion.

He Says He Was “Called In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the graphic terminology used, Joshua said he has been “called in to rescue” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul phenomenon and I understand it and that's why I have to carry boxing on my back in this bout,” he added.

The event also had more humorous exchanges, with AJ smiling as his rival sang a nursery rhyme to him.

The final staredown passed without incident, with Paul striking a bizarre pose before Joshua remained calm and playfully touched Paul's chain.

Paul & Joshua Deny Scripted Allegations

The unusual nature of this fight has led to speculation about its legitimacy, including claims that he may be restricted from scoring a knockout.

“There's nothing in the agreement, AJ can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Paul insisted.

Joshua, wearing a expensive necklace, humorously added, “The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the money.”

He has claimed on his platforms that the total purse will be extremely large.

Biggest Upset in Boxing History?

Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, gathering a massive social media following.

He has not faced anyone of Joshua's skill level but insisted that his opponent would take him seriously.

“It's smart on his part,” Paul said. “This could possibly be, and will be, the biggest loss of his life.”

A win for the underdog would be perhaps the biggest upset in the boxing's history.

It would undoubtedly leave an indelible stain on his record, but the fighter stated it would not mean retirement.

“I'd return again, move on,” he remarked. “I will be headlining again in a year or two. It is what it is. I'm a player in the game.”
